Starting Anew

I have been writing regularly for nearly 30 years. I wrote daily devotions, Words from the Well for more than twenty years. I then decided it was time to move on to a different type of writing and do it less frequently while working at the same time on a book project. I wrote on my website (www.jimmusser.com) under the heading, “Applying Faith to Life.” I wrote about whatever came to mind or what I believed the Lord wanted me to focus on. Another book project followed, which I completed in 2023, along with a freelance gig, but I kept writing my blog.

Then came August 2024 where suddenly my heart started to race and go into arrhythmia. Long story short, from October 2024 to November 2025, I had around ten heart procedures in attempts to solve the problem. None of them worked for long. And my writing began to be less frequent. By December of last year, I stopped writing altogether. Since that time, I had a pacemaker implanted and now feel better than I have felt since August 2024.

While away visiting family and friends in South Africa for over a month, I decided I wanted to get back to writing, including possibly a new book project. So, here I am ready to start anew and excited about the possibilities.

Right now, I don’t know how often I will write, but at a minimum, once per week. So, let me start out this new run (hopefully a long one!) of posts with a question: Is your church experience truly meeting your deepest spiritual needs? Are there things you long for that are lacking in your church experience?

In my next post, I’ll explain more of where I am coming from and some things I have observed in how local churches operate. So, I would love to have you answer my question. And if your answer is “yes,” I would love to hear what needs are being met. If your answer is “no,” then what needs are going unmet?

Until next time. . .
